How to fix the upper tailgate when it becomes stuck from the outside on the Land Rover LR3 2005 - 2009 or LR4 2010 - 2013.
Watch Jim as he demonstrates the necessary steps to release the LR3 upper tailgate when it becomes stuck and tips on replacing the actuator and or latch if failed.
We offer a complete, convenient kit # TLRK for this that includes a new tailgate latch, tailgate actuator, and moisture shield (AKA water shredder or water deflector.)
A common problem with Land Rover LR3s, is where you can not open your upper tailgate.
Watch our Land Rover Master Technician, Doug, show you how to gain access to the lower tailgate actuator cable.
Then, you can get the tailgate open in order to replace the failed actuator and latch cable, part #s FUG500010G and LR017470G.
You will also want to replace the moisture shield part part # EOT500013G.

As long as you can get the rear hatch open, this is a straight forward fix for rear hatches that will not open consistently. If you can’t get your hatch open like mine, try having someone push the hatch from inside while you press the hatch release on the key fob. The hatch on my LR4 was stuck from the outside but with some pressure from inside we were able to get it open and made this repair much simpler. I highly recommend this part for this type of repair.

This kit is exactly what it says it is. Relatively easy to install once you get the back hatch open. If your hatch won’t open this is what you need

After performing research and watching your videos on how to replace a faulty Land Rover LR4 (2016) rear tailgate actuator, I purchased the combo package (with latch, actuator and moisture shield). The package shipped quickly and the repair only took me about 45 minutes from start to finish. Great product info, inventory, shipping and detailed installation videos. Thanks!

Glad I did this early, when the tailgate got “sticky” but had not really failed yet.

I took my time, watched a few YouTube videos, and the installation took me a little over an hour to complete. Hardest part was probably separating the carpet from the tailgate, otherwise the parts installed very easily. The liftgate/tailgate work again as they should.
